Assistant Professor - Poverty and Urban Studies in the Americas
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
The Department of Interdisciplinary Arts & Sciences at the City College Center for Worker Education (CUNY) invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Poverty and Urban Studies in the Americas, to start in Spring 2025 (subject to budgetary approval). Candidates for this position should be active in researching, teaching, and community engagement, with the ability to focus on the Americas. Areas of expertise could include social justice, social movements, climate justice/ecocriticism, environmental studies, and/or urban poverty. The successful candidate will be eager and able to collaborate across divisions and programs within City College.
The Department primarily serves working adults and offers an interdisciplinary BA in Liberal Arts and Sciences, a BA in Social Justice and Urban Life, a BS in Early Childhood Education, and an MA in the Study of the Americas. Classes are taught in the afternoon and evening, on Saturday, and in person and online. Responsibilities for the successful candidate will include teaching 4-5 courses (18 credit hours) per year and participating in the development of a growing curriculum in social justice, inequality, and urban studies. The candidate will teach, mentor, and advise both undergraduate and graduate students and should have the ability to build community partnerships.
Expected duties include: teaching, research, and guidance duties in area(s) of expertise noted above; sharing responsibility for committee and department assignments; performing administrative and supervisory tasks as may be assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Ph.D. degree in a relevant area of the Humanities or Social Sciences and a demonstrated scholarship and research agenda. COMPENSATION
Salary Range: $75,465 - $82,928
