Job Description

The Department of Radiology at Stanford University School of Medicine is searching for a full-time faculty member for the Division of Breast Imaging. This faculty search is open rank and the appointment would be in the Clinician Educator Line, University Medical Line, or University Tenure Line. The predominant criterion for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. The major criteria for appointment for faculty in the University Medical Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. The major criterion for appointment as Clinician Educators is excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, teaching, administrative and/or scholarship appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fulfill. Academic rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

Stanford Hospital & Clinics has recently expanded its hospital facilities to accommodate new medical technology and increased capacity needs. The new facilities feature more individual patient rooms, an enlarged Level-1 trauma center and Emergency Department, and new surgical, diagnostic and treatment rooms. The Stanford Palo Alto Cancer Center and the Cancer Center South Bay have also expanded their breast imaging facilities to allow for further growth and new modalities. Multiple Stanford Hospital & Clinic centers around the Bay Area Peninsula house state-of-the-art multimodality breast imaging facilities. Exceptional opportunities exist for research in all aspects of breast imaging, both within the department and also across departmental boundaries at both the medical school and the university-wide levels. With an active NIH cancer center, and new dedicated on-site clinical cancer research management facilities, there is dedicated infrastructure for clinical trials and cooperative studies.  Extensive basic research by basic scientist investigators in Radiology and the contiguous engineering and science departments provide a unique fertile environment for rapid translational research. Emerging areas of breast imaging including in MR, optical, photoacoustic, molecular imaging, and merger of in vitro and in vivo diagnostics are all under active expansion with first-in-human studies.

The successful candidate will have demonstrated exceptional qualities and promise as a clinician, teacher, and, if applicable, as an outstanding investigator. Candidates must have an MD or MD/PhD degree(s) or equivalent, be American Board of Radiology certified or eligible, have completed a minimum 6-month fellowship in Breast Imaging, be credentialed in mammography as required by MQSA, and have a California Medical license prior to appointment start date. The successful candidate must have the ability to interpret digital breast tomosynthesis (DBT) screening and diagnostic mammograms, breast ultrasounds and breast MRI examinations, and be able to perform core biopsies and preoperative needle localizations using x-ray, ultrasound and MRI guidance.

Salary Range:

The expected base pay range for this position is:

Clinical Instructor: $390,000 - $396,000

Assistant Professor: $405,000 - $423,000

Associate Professor: $438,000 - $456,000

Professor: $476,000 - $503,000

This pay range reflects base pay, which is based on faculty rank and years in rank. It does not include all components of the School of Medicine’s faculty compensation program or pay from participation in departmental incentive compensation programs.
