Job Description and Duties

The California Department of Social Services, Legal Division, is recruiting to fill one permanent, full-time Senior Legal Analyst position in the Legal Division Enforcement Branch, in Sacramento. The Senior Legal Analyst provides paralegal support to the attorneys in the Legal Division. Duties include: Drafting pleadings on the most complex issues; drafting settlement agreements; analyzing statutory, regulatory and case law; and performing other work associated with trial preparation as needed.

The Senior Legal Analyst may serve in a lead capacity over other paralegals. Must have ability to analyze legal issues accurately and present those issues in writing in an effective manner. Must be able to work cooperatively with attorneys, other paralegals, support staff, licensing staff, and the public. Some travel is required.

Senior Legal Analyst Minimum Qualifications

Either I

Experience: Two years of experience in the California state service performing the duties of Legal Analyst.

Or II

Four years of progressively responsible paralegal experience performing duties in one or a combination of the following specialty areas: Litigation and trial preparation, administrative law and procedures, criminal law and procedures, corporate and business law, medical malpractice, estate and tax law, environmental and land use law, antitrust, labor and consumer law. (Experience in California state service applied toward this requirement must include one year performing the duties of Legal Analyst.)

Working Conditions

This position may be eligible for hybrid telework under California Government Code Section 14200 for eligible applicants residing in California. All telework schedules are subject to change and may be reevaluated at any time. Specific telework arrangements may be discussed in more detail with the respective hiring manager. Telework does not change the terms and conditions of employment, the essential functions of job duties, or required compliance with the Department of Social Services policies. Headquarter location will be designated based on the selected candidate's primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location.  Please note, if this position is being advertised in multiple locations, the headquarter location will be designated based on the selected candidate's?primary residence location, and/or the closest CDSS location.

Training and Development assignments may be considered based on the availability of eligible candidates and are subject to approval by the Hiring Authority prior to appointment. Training and Development assignments are temporary in nature and shall not exceed twenty-four (24) months.

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview, but they must provide proof of residence in California prior to being eligible for appointment.
