The Institute for Global Change Biology (IGCB) is seeking a dedicated Research Scientist to address key environmental challenges: biodiversity and habitat fragmentation, carbon accounting in forest natural climate solutions (fNCS), and the nexus of biodiversity and climate change.

Educational duties involve teaching statistical analysis and advising postdocs and graduate students. Participate in IGCB training events, including weekly research meetings and coding help sessions.

Research Duties (75%)

  • Lead Research on Habitat Fragmentation- Develop refined methodologies to evaluate biodiversity in fragmented landscapes and provide clear policy and management guidelines.
  • Enhance Forest Carbon Accounting- Improve carbon life cycle models to offer comprehensive evaluations of fNCS, considering emissions, soil carbon changes, and short-term radiative forcing impacts.
  • Conduct Interdisciplinary Synthesis Projects: Integrate biodiversity research across agriculture, agroecology, and climate change disciplines to understand their interconnected impacts.

Educational Duties (25%)

  • Teaching statistical analysis and advising postdocs and graduate students
  • Participating in IGCB training events, including weekly research meetings and coding help sessions
  • Ph.D. in ecology, biology, or related scientific discipline
  • 3+ years of experience in biodiversity, carbon accounting, or climate change research 
  • Strong analytical and research skills
