Duties and Responsibilities


  • MANAGEMENT OF STUDENT DATA
  • **Manage the collection, compilation, validation, benchmarking, and dissemination of data from various sources, including University management information systems, national databases and published sources.
  • **Maintain a considerable knowledge base of data from the UH Student data warehouse, overseeing a significant data category for ongoing improvements.
  • **Perform complex queries to conduct advanced searches, gather, and summarize data for analysis in relational databases.
  • **Maintain data accuracy by resolving problems related to programming, coding structures, and input errors.
  • **Collaborate with University offices and external agencies to improve the quality and comprehensiveness of data, reporting accuracy, and timeliness.
  • Maintain knowledge of other related systems as needed.
  • RESEARCH AND REPORTING
  • Anticipate and identify stakeholder information needs by reviewing national, regional and University developments in the context of higher education.
  • **Develop both qualitative and quantitative strategies and methodologies for complex research projects.
  • **Conduct university system-wide research for evaluation and planning purposes, including for academic and administrative programs.
  • **Design and provide comprehensive reporting and training via concise written summaries and engaging oral presentations.
  • **Create compelling data visualizations (charts, graphs, slideshows, dashboards) to simplify complex information.
  • **Respond to ad hoc requests from UH administration and offices, faculty, students, state and federal agencies, other educational institutions, and the general public.
  • Serve on task forces, working groups, and committees as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a baccalaureate degree in statistics, psychology, sociology, public policy, political science, educational research, data science, economics, quantitative methods, research methods, or tests and measurements or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for administrative and program research analysis; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education, knowledge, skills and abilities as indicated.
  • Considerable working knowledge of principles, practices and techniques in the area of statistical analysis methods and techniques and the ability to apply these methods and techniques to a diverse range of data and administrative systems and processes using personal computers and software to create spreadsheets and graphics as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts, principles and methodologies.
  • Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws, rules, regulations, and theories and systems associated with academic planning, research and analysis.
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problem in an effective, innovative and timely manner.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing, verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations, groups, team leaders and members, and individuals.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer and word processing software.
  • If applicable, for supervisory work, demonstrated ability to lead subordinates, manage work priorities and projects, and manage employee relations.
  • Demonstrated ability to use personal computers and software to create spreadsheets, graphics, word processing and databases; in particular, possesses a considerable working knowledge of Excel.
  • Ability to do detailed and accurate work.
Desirable Qualifications

  • Master’s degree with coursework in statistics, quantitative methods, research methods, tests and measurements or mathematics.
  • Experience in higher education.
  • Knowledge of higher education information systems.
  • Knowledge of data warehousing.
  • Experience using business intelligence tools.
