About Our Firm

Klopf Architecture is a client-focused 20-person design firm. We have created an open, inclusive and diverse team hailing from across the U.S. and various countries around the world. Our cultural diversity includes native speakers of Mandarin, Spanish, French, Macedonian, Russian, and English with a balanced ratio of staff genders. We value all employees' contributions and strengths, and reward them with growth opportunities where possible.

We offer competitive compensation, 8 annual paid holidays, 2 weeks paid time off (increasing in later years), group medical coverage through Kaiser Permanente, group dental insurance through Delta Dental, and a 401(k) plan with company contributions. We believe strongly in work-life balance: everyone works roughly 40 hours per week.

Our office is located in the Mission District of San Francisco. We work hybrid with a minimum of three days per week in the office mandated; after the first three months, you can choose to work the other two days of the week from home or in the office.

Role Description

We seek an Intermediate Interior Designer who is interested in working cross-functionally in both interior design and architecture (but mostly interior design) who can perform at a level typically associated with 3-5 years of interior design office experience. A minimum of a bachelor's degree in Interior Design and previous US office work experience are required.

We're looking for the following:

  • Design excellence in the modernist idiom.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with experience managing vendor and contractor relations.
  • Working knowledge of the full design process including Concept, Schematic, Design Development, Construction Documentation, Construction Observation, Procurement, and Installation.
  • Experience selecting and specifying furnishings, lighting, hardware, window coverings, materials and finishes.
  • Experience developing design documents, drawings, elevations, details, furniture plans, client presentations, 2D/3D renderings, and preparing material palettes to demonstrate design ideas.
  • Ability to effectively work cross-functionally with the in-house architectural team
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to perform site measurements, construction site visits, respond to RFIs, review shop drawings and control samples, and participate in furniture installations
  • Experience creating construction drawings, specifications, and schedules
  • ArchiCAD knowledge is desired but not required, but previous 3D CAD modeling (BIM) experience in some software is required.

You will participate in our team-oriented design and production process under the supervision of various senior staff members including primarily under our Lead Interior Designer, in our holistic interior/architectural designs.
