What To Expect
Tesla is on a path to build humanoid robots at scale to automate repetitive and boring tasks. Battery Mechanical Design Engineers on Optimus have to rethink how future autonomous humanoid robots will be powered. Design requirements for steady-state Optimus usage are still in their infancy, so this role requires strong mechanical fundamentals to release and ramp parts. As a Mechanical Engineer on Tesla’s Optimus Battery team, you may also be tasked with cell selection, form factor definition, abuse prevention, and many more yet-undiscovered engineering problems, so a breadth of engineering disciplines is necessary. You will join a branch of the Automotive team tasked with injecting Tesla’s state-of-art Automotive EV battery technology into the humanoid form factor. Collaborating with world-class Battery Engineers and Bot Designers, you will define how the world’s first mass scale humanoid bot program will be designed and powered.
What You'll Do Full product design responsibility, from concept through production launch and ramp3D design of complex parts and assembliesAdvancing product performance while driving down cost and massDeveloping new technologies, supported with early process developmentHands-on prototypingSpecification definition (dimensional, functional, performance, manufacturing)Meticulous release of 2D part and assembly drawingsOwning basic testing and analysis; supporting advanced testing and analysisRoot causing test failures and production problemsTravel to support production launch and ramp (supplier visits, on-site at Tesla GFNV, etc.)
What You'll Bring Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experiencePreferably 2-5 years in battery or high-volume manufacturing environmentsStrong Engineering fundamentals in heat transfer, electrical, mechanics, and basic electronicsProficiency in CAD modeling. CATIA V5/V6 and 3DX experience is a plusProficiency with statistics and data analysis. SPC/Black-Belt proficiency a plus but not mandatoryPreferred experience with various manufacturing processes such as plastic injection molding, metal stamping, thermoforming, welding/brazing, plating, PCBA/FPC, and bondingPreferred experience in designing for high volume assembly, both manual and automated A detail-oriented personality with solid documentation and reporting skills Experience with student Formula Vehicle, Solar Car, Formula Baja, etc. is a plus

Expected Compensation
$104,000 - $174,000/annual salary + cash and stock awards + benefits
Pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an employee receives an offer of employment.
