Job Description

Organ Procurement Coordinator
Join our mission and help give the most precious gift of all...life!

Imagine starting each day knowing your work directly contributes to saving and enhancing lives. At Live On Nebraska, every day is an opportunity to make a difference for donor families and individuals waiting for a transplant. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Organ Procurement Coordinator to join our Clinical Services team, where your expertise will play a crucial role in the organ donation process.

What You’ll Be Doing:
As a Organ Procurement Coordinator, you will manage the entire organ donation process, from initial donor assessment to organ recovery. You’ll work both remotely and on-site at donor hospitals across Nebraska, collaborating with hospital staff to optimize donor management and ensure every opportunity for organ donation is maximized.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Referral Management:
    • Receive and evaluate organ donor referrals from across Nebraska.
    • Conduct initial phone screenings with hospital personnel to assess donor potential.
    • Perform on-site assessments to determine donor suitability, educating hospital staff on organ donation procedures.
  • Donor Management:
    • Collaborate with hospital staff to manage medical care that supports organ donation, from referral through authorization.
    • Coordinate and oversee diagnostic procedures such as EKG, Echo, and CT scans.
    • Ensure all documentation is thorough and compliant with regulatory standards, managing it in the internal EMR system.
  • Pre-Organ Recovery:
    • Lead allocation huddles, ensuring clear communication among the team.
    • Coordinate logistics for surgeon travel, including airport transfers and on-site support.
    • Supervise the collection and labeling of blood samples, maintaining meticulous records throughout the pre-recovery phase.
  • Organ Recovery:
    • Oversee the recovery process, ensuring all organs are accurately documented and prepared for transport.
    • Conduct post-recovery debriefings with the team to discuss outcomes and plan future steps.
    • Ensure surgeons sign off on all recovered organs and that all necessary documentation is complete and accurate.
  • Additional Responsibilities:
    • Participate in daily briefings to update on patient and family status and strategize communication with families.
    • Perform daily diagnostic tests to assess organ suitability for transplantation, reporting findings to the medical director and on-call organ associate.
    • Stay current with all test results and culture updates to ensure the latest information is available for decision-making.
    • Keep precise records for billing and documentation purposes, starting from the declaration of brain death.

What you’ll bring:

  • Licensed RN, Respiratory Therapist, or prior clinical experience in an OPO.
  • Critical care or emergency care experience required.
  • ACLS, PALS, and BLS certifications (or ability to obtain).
  • Familiarity with EMR systems (Epic, Cerner, Meditech) and proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Strong organizational, critical thinking, and communication skills, with the ability to work under pressure.

Schedule:

  • Minimum of 24, 12-hour call shifts over a 2-month period on a flexible schedule.
  • Day/Night rotations on an average of every 2 months to stratify experience levels on shift and meet the needs of the team.

** Training may require more travel and call shifts to gain proper experience. **
