The City of Sylvania Police Department is building an ongoing eligibility list for Police Officers that will remain in effect for two years.
Salary Information:
Starting Police Officer Wage: $32.82 per hour
Starting Police Cadet Wage: $20.61 per hour

Department Overview:
The Sylvania Police Division has a longstanding tradition of service. The division includes 40 sworn and non-sworn personnel dedicated to law enforcement and enhancing the quality of life in the City of Sylvania.
Area Information:
Sylvania is a city in Lucas County, Ohio, with a population of 19,011 (as of the 2020 census). It is a suburb of Toledo and is surrounded by Sylvania Township, with its northern border adjacent to the state of Michigan.
Job Requirements:
Age: Must be between 21 and 42 years old at the time of appointment.
Citizenship: U.S. citizenship required.
Education: High school diploma or GED required. Must possess an associate degree or have completed at least 96 quarter hours or 64 semester hours from an accredited college or university.
Driver's License: Valid driver's license required. Officers may reside in Ohio or Michigan.
Vision Requirements:
No color blindness.
No night vision blindness; must be able to see at night.
Peripheral vision must be 70 degrees or greater.
Vision correction surgery must have been performed at least one year before the medical examination for the position.
Corrected vision: 20/20 binocular vision; up to 20/40 in each eye.
Uncorrected vision: 20/100 in each eye.
Certification Requirements:
Academy Certification: Not required at the time of appointment. Candidates must complete the Ohio Peace Officer Certification Program within one year of appointment.
Candidates certified as peace officers in Ohio at the time of testing and scoring 70% or higher will receive an additional five points on their passing score.
Veterans' Preference:
Veterans who achieve a passing score on the examination will receive an additional five points on their passing score. Form DD214 must be provided for verification.
Hiring Process:
Submit application and transcripts through the National Testing Network.
Complete testing through the National Testing Network.
Undergo a thorough background investigation.
Interview with the Chief of Police.
After a conditional offer of employment, candidates must pass a psychological evaluation, physical/medical examination, and drug screening.
Disqualifiers:
Failure to meet minimum qualifications.
Incomplete testing or failure to submit required documentation by the specified deadline.
Felony arrest or conviction.
Domestic violence conviction.
Arrest or conviction for a theft-related offense.
Current drug use.
