Position Overview

Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated and innovative individual to serve as a Public Health Program Specialist in the Focused Populations division. This person will execute, monitor, and evaluate a statewide program aimed at improving the health and wellness of individuals from marginalized and disenfranchised populations, including justice-involved individuals, homeless and unsheltered people, and communities of diverse backgrounds across Illinois. This person will also be responsible for developing a surveillance program and reporting network, and collaborating with other health-related organizations to improve the health and wellness of the program population.

Essential Functions

• Executes, monitors, and evaluates a statewide program aimed at improving the health and wellness of individuals from marginalized and disenfranchised populations, including justice-involved individuals, homeless and unsheltered people, communities of diverse races and backgrounds across Illinois.
• Gathers and evaluates data programmatic data.
• Develops and implements activities to distribute information about health and wellness opportunities for the program population. 
• Develop a surveillance program and reporting network for individuals from marginalized and disenfranchised populations, including justice-involved individuals, homeless and unsheltered people, communities of diverse races and backgrounds across Illinois to collect and compile qualitative and quantitative information and data for use in program decisions and strategies.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonable within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifcations

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college with courses in health education, physical and biological sciences.
• Requires one year of professional experience in a health education or investigation program in the public or private sector, or completion of an approved training program.

 

Preferred Qualifications

• Through knowledge of the basic principles and practices related to communicable and hereditary diseases, including detection methods and prevention strategies, through education or prior experience.
• One (1) year of demonstrated experience with local, state, and federal disease reporting requirements, gained through education or previous work experience in a public health or healthcare setting.
• One (1) year of experience creating and delivering health-related presentations, with a focus on clear communication aimed at promoting understanding and compliance with disease reporting guidelines.
• One (1) year experience assisting in the implementation of disease detection, prevention, and control programs, including data collection, monitoring, and supporting outreach efforts in an assigned area or under supervision.
• Demonstrated ability to speak in front of both professional and community groups, presenting information clearly and engagingly to encourage program participation and raise awareness.
