Job Description

The Refrigeration Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the refrigeration equipment that includes Installing, repairing, replacing, and performing preventative and corrective maintenance inspections on, but not limited to, Refrigeration equipment and system, Chilled water systems, Hydraulics, Wastewater and Waste systems, Nitrogen generation, Air compressors and Air compressors system, Water distribution and filter system.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Daily Inspection on all the systems to determine if they are operating properly.
  • Adjusts thermostats, valves, motors, and controls to be specified levels of operation.
  • In depth knowledge of all tools and equipment applicable to trade
  • Responds to emergency calls, evaluates situation, and takes corrective action.
  • Maintains a high standard of safety, cleanliness, and efficiency.
  • Effectively communicate with production and other mechanics to identify problematic areas of concern; provide and receive feedback and/or support through collection and analysis of information.
  • Must demonstrate an understanding of the company's objectives including productivity, yields, food safety, quality, customer service and cost goals. Supports achieving these goals.
  • Perform daily inspections, emergency repairs, and routine adjustments; follows periodic preventive maintenance schedule.
  • Participates on safety teams.
  • Perform other duties as required or assigned.
  • To have a set of tools, wrench, etc. necessary to perform all the tasks.

Requirements:

  • Experience and knowledge with Anhydrous Ammonia (NH3) as an Industrial Refrigeration refrigerant in "Food Industry".
  • Experience with ammonia as a refrigerant compression, condensation, and evaporation in industrial refrigeration. Mechanical functions and the associated equipment and instruments with ammonia vapor-compression and liquid - evaporation process.
  • Understand and interpretation of ammonia industrial refrigeration process, flow diagrams, P&ID's, and mechanical & electrical drawings.
  • Experience with OSHA 29 CFR 1910.119 - Process Safety Management of Highly Hazardous Chemical Standard. Understanding, application, and maintenance.
  • Experience with EPA 40 CFR Part 68 - Chemical Accident Prevention Provisions - "Risk management Plan"
  • Knowledge of Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration process, operation, and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of operation, functions, and troubleshooting refrigeration equipment, controls, and trouble shooting.
  • Knowledge of process, and equipment limitations of refrigeration process for the field of application and applying the safety controls (set points), for safety operation.
  • Knowledge of equipment and components of Industrial Ammonia Refrigeration operations and conditions, based on facility PSM and RMP program.

  • Shut Off, Pressure Regulators, flow control, Solenoid, expansion, Pressure Relief, and automatic control valves.
  • Instruments, Temperature, pressure, flow, sensors, and gauges
  • Oil Coolers, thermosyphon, recirculators, HPL vessels
  • Ammonia Pipelines and insulation
  • Control Panels and Refrigeration management system.
  • Understand and Familiar with Refrigeration Water chemical treatment.
  • Ammonia Pressure and Temperatures, causes and effects when not in normal operation settings. Actions to take upon changes in temperature and pressure of refrigeration process.
  • Knowledge of ammonia Pump Out and oil drainage, operational and safely.
  • Knowledge of preventive and predictive Maintenance of Ammonia Refrigeration and Utilities process.
  • Ammonia process and operation monitoring and data collection.
  • Determine periodicity and priority of maintenance and work orders.
  • Work Orders and planning
  • Records keeping
  • Mechanical Integrity
  • Safety Procedures and Equipment (PPE) required and application. Incident prevention.
  • Ammonia sensors and Alarms system
  • Ventilation
  • Ammonia Inventory and usage.
  • Supervise/Manage facility PSM and RMP programs.
  • Work in partnership with plant operations (Production, Quality, Administration) to adequate refrigeration process towards facility requirements and principally safety.
  • Hazmat, Refrigeration training and certifications are desirable. Not mandatory.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to read, write, and speak English.
  • Must work effectively in a team setting.
  • Effective communication skills
  • Show expertise in working with team and independently.
  • Familiarity with preventative or reliability-based maintenance.
  • Possess IIAR Industrial Refrigeration I is desirable but not mandatory.
  • Knowledge/understanding of basics of engineering: Pressure, Flow, Temperature, etc.
  • Hands on experience with cooling processes ammonia refrigeration, vacuum pumps, refrigeration compressors, condensers, purging, water treatment, Air Compressors.
  • Have mechanical experience with a good mechanical aptitude.
  • Knowledge of electrical power maintenance (480V) and process control (PLC level to the device level).
  • Knowledge of PSM system, Hazard analysis.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulation.
  • Ammonia Refrigeration systems experience
  • Pneumatic and hydraulic systems experience
  • Experience with HVAC system operation and maintenance is desirable.
  • Food processing industry experience
  • Ability to use Microsoft computer programs: Outlook, Word, Excel
  • Minimum 3 years' experience as refrigeration Lead or Supervisor

Education/Training:

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma/GED
  • Refrigeration and Ammonia Certified
