Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Marketing and Publicity Manager to join our vibrant and innovative Marketing and Publicity Team. This team is responsible for creating collaborative and creative campaigns for a wide range of nonfiction titles, including cookbooks, each year. As part of this growing team, you'll play a key role in developing marketing and publicity campaigns that are unique, results-driven, and tailored to each title's needs.

The ideal candidate will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be ready to craft engaging, goal-oriented marketing and publicity strategies for nonfiction books, with a special focus on cookbooks. You will create and execute comprehensive marketing and publicity plans aimed at boosting sales, enhancing brand awareness, and increasing exposure across multiple channels, including online, print, broadcast, and more.

This role reports to the US Director of Marketing and PR and offers the flexibility of working from either our New York, NY or Beverly, MA office on a hybrid schedule. Remote candidates with the right qualifications will also be considered.

Key Responsibilities:
Develop dynamic, creative, and results-driven marketing and publicity campaigns for 40-50 titles per year, primarily focused on cookbooks across various imprints.
Confidently pitch lead titles to targeted media outlets, building strong relationships with key media contacts to secure broad coverage across print, online, and broadcast media. Collaborate with outside publicity teams when needed.
Write engaging press releases and create media kits, build media lists, and secure quality PR coverage for assigned titles.
Communicate media coverage with enthusiasm to authors, agents, and internal teams, generating excitement and engagement around new releases.
Lead the planning, pitching, logistics, and budgeting for author tours as part of assigned publicity campaigns.
Build relationships with authors, agents, and internal teams to generate excitement for upcoming titles.
Develop and manage social media strategies for assigned titles, both paid and organic, to optimize reach and awareness.
Create A+ content and other marketing materials for assigned titles to support their launch and promotion.
Collaborate closely with the marketing department on umbrella campaigns and to develop influencer partnerships that support key titles.
Maintain and update review quotes, promotional copy, and materials for assigned titles.
Stay up-to-date on changes in social media platforms, online strategies, and evolving technologies, particularly in relation to our subject areas, and share insights with the team to help shape strategy.

Qualifications and Skills:
Bachelor's degree preferred.
4-5 years of experience in planning and executing marketing, publicity, and social media strategies, ideally within the publishing industry.
Highly creative, with a strong ability to devise fresh and innovative marketing approaches, particularly in social media.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a talent for crafting engaging content.
Strong team player with the ability to work collaboratively across publishing, sales, and author teams.
Highly organized, with excellent time-management and multi-tasking skills, and a proven ability to meet deadlines and manage budgets.
Experience in author care and communication, fostering strong relationships with authors.
Thorough understanding of media, public relations, and book publishing, with experience navigating the publicity landscape.
Adaptable and open to learning, with a positive attitude towards changes in the role or organization.
Willingness to travel to trade shows, conventions, and author events as necessary.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, Cision, Edelweiss, Box/Dropbox preferred.
Experience working with independent bookstores is a plus.
