Located approximately 26 miles from the City of Fairbanks, Fort Knox is a centre of excellence for the Company as one of the few cold weather heap leach facilities in the world. Fort Knox celebrated its 25-year anniversary in 2021, and has produced over 8.5 million ounces since it began operation. In 2020, Kinross acquired Manh Choh – a project expected to commence production in 2024 and process ore at Fort Knox.

Fairbanks Gold Mining, Inc. seeks a Senior Metallurgist in Fairbanks, AK.  Fairbanks Gold Mining. Inc. is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Kinross Gold Corporation.

Work You’ll Do

Provide daily technical support to Mill and Heap Operations for troubleshooting and correcting metallurgical and production problems. Develop and execute lab and plant metallurgical studies aimed at improving mill throughput, recovery, and costs. Monitor and evaluate the metallurgical performance of the mill designs and execute test programs for improving mill recovery, throughput, and costs. Conducting sample test programs and routine metallurgical testing, monitoring, control, and optimization of the operation, using carbon activity testing, rheology testing, particle sizes distribution, grind testing, and lime demand testing. Developing and executing lab and plant test programs for improvement of plant metallurgical performance by using bottle roll testing, and column testing. Responsible for metallurgical accounting functions, including sampling and data collection programs, calculations, and databases for periodic reports. Preparing mill reagent consumption reports, and monthly status and final reports on multiple metallurgical projects. Operating in milling, heap leaching, and providing technical support for precious metals. Generating maintenance and purchase orders for plant and lab operations by utilizing Oracle JD Edward software. Participating in elution operation processes for gold stripping from loaded carbon into bullions. The position supervises Mill Metallurgists, Metallurgical Technicians and Refinery Operators.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree, or foreign equivalent degree in Engineering (any), Materials Science, or a related field.
• Five years of progressively responsible experience in the offered position or a position in a related occupation.
• Must have five years of experience with:

• Developing and executing lab and plant test programs for improvement of plant metallurgical performance by using bottle roll testing, and column testing;
• Responsible for metallurgical accounting functions, including sampling and data collection programs, calculations, and databases for periodic reports;
• Preparing mill reagent consumption reports, and monthly status and final reports on multiple metallurgical projects;
• Operating in milling, heap leaching, and providing technical support for precious metals;
• Generating maintenance and purchase orders for plant and lab operations by utilizing Oracle JD Edward software; and
• Participating in elution operation processes for gold stripping from loaded carbon into bullions.
