STAGE MANAGER
Passionate about arts?  Looking for a new challenge and the opportunity to make a difference in your community?  We’re looking for creative, motivated people like you!  The Stage Manager provides practical and organizational support to directors, actors, designers, stage crew and technicians throughout the production process for the New Hazlett’s self-produced CSA Performance Series. They are the director's representative during performances, making sure that the CSA productions run smoothly. The ideal candidate has multi-faceted experience in all aspects of theater and d emonstrates commitment to safety and safe theater practices. The Stage Manager is an employee of the New Hazlett Theater , reporting to the Creative Programs Manager.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
  • Attend events related to the CSA performance series, as scheduled with the Creative Programs Manager, including production meetings, rehearsals, load-ins, load-outs, and performances.
  • Available for meetings with the theater, artists, designers, and/or technical crew.
  • Maintain the prompt book; keep track of changes in the script, blocking, light, sound, music, costume, and/or set change cues, and communicate these to the appropriate parties.
  • Ensure that props and set dressings are in their proper places during rehearsals and performances.
  • Create a detailed plan of the various movements, actions, and cues of the running of the show with the technical crew.
  • Attend to the backstage area, making sure props, costumes, microphones, instruments and other necessary materials are properly set and struck as needed.
  • Coordinate with the House Manager the exact time the curtain goes up, which may vary from performance to performance.
  • Cue the performers and technical crew during each performance.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the rehearsal space and theater during rehearsals and performances by attending to the cleaning of stage surfaces, storing props, costumes, and other performance related materials appropriately, and directing cast and crew to remove garbage and food from the theater or rehearsal space upon exit.
  • Arrive early to the theater for rehearsals/performances to check in all talent and properly prepare the space.
  • Edit rehearsal schedule. Communicate call times/schedule details to cast and crew.
  • Create and circulate rehearsal and performance notes.
  • Ensure the safety of all persons and property associated with the production by being familiar with fire, safety, weapon, and other regulations that govern the theater.
  • Inform all company members of the proper rules and regulations during rehearsals and performances, and ensure they understand and abide by them. Respectfully inform company members if they are in violation of any of the rules and regulations. Report to Creative Programs Manager or Production Manager if violations persist.

Job Requirements

Experience
  • A minimum of three years of experience in stage management for the live theater, an equivalent position in broadcast television, or film, or the equivalent in educational experience in the same field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office.
  • Strong verbal communications skills: ability to communicate with a broad range of stakeholders in a pressured environment.
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to multi-task, reprioritize and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
  • Excellent personnel management skills.
  • Ability to quickly identify and provide recommendations on issues.
  • Highly motivated to work independently and remain calm under pressure.
  • Knowledge of lighting and sound consoles a plus.
  • Reading music and knowledge of choreographic terms is a plus.

Working Hours : Shifts will vary depending upon production requirements. This position will work a flexible schedule, including frequent nights and weekends.

Expectation : This is a seasonal, part time, non-exempt position. The three performances of the 2025 CSA Season will run January – April 2025.  Training for this position will begin in October 2024, with rehearsal schedules still to be determined. Total work during this period is expected to be approximate 300 hours, with rehearsal schedules still to be determined.

Compensation: Pay rate $18.50 per hour.
