Support Services Specialist - Hospital Dentistry

As a Support Services Specialist at Hospital Dentistry Institute, individual will play a vital role in ensuring patients receive the financial support they need while maximizing revenue for healthcare services. Primary responsibilities include financial counseling, insurance coordination, claims processing, and outstanding balance management. Hybrid within Iowa : Hybrid schedule available upon successful completion of training and onboarding; work schedule to be discussed during interview. Remote work must be performed within the state of Iowa and will require a work arrangement form to be completed. Per policy, work arrangements will be reviewed annually, and must comply with the remote work program and related policies and employee travel policy when working at a remote location.

Key Responsibilities:

Patient Financial Support:

· Provide in-person and phone-based financial counseling to patients.

· Advise patients on financial policies and facilitate payments.

· Establish payment arrangements and coordinate financial assistance.

Insurance Coordination:

· Analyze and disseminate medical/dental benefit data.

· Prepare and submit pre-authorizations to insurance carriers.

· Verify benefits, patient liability, and non-covered exceptions.

· Create treatment estimates and inform patients of financial responsibilities.

Claims Processing:

· Verify and adjust patient charges as necessary.

· Ensure accurate data entry for claims submission.

· Post payments, initiate refunds, and resolve billing account concerns.

· Monitor and act on outstanding claims and delinquent balances.

Customer Service:

· Review reports to identify payment plan opportunities and required pre-service payments.

· Deliver HIPAA-compliant, outstanding customer service.

Training and Development:

· Participate in training and development initiatives.

Salary: $48,964 to commensurate (Pay Grade: 3A)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:30am - 4:30pm

May require occasional overtime.

Work Location : On-Site

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Health Administration or equivalent, or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.

· Knowledge of and ability to manage the major activities of the patient revenue/billing functions, including:

o Patient financial counseling;

o Third party pre-authorization;

o Establishing payment plans;

o Managing delinquencies and collection process; and

o Understands basic principles, techniques and terminology of claims processing and reimbursement.

§ Claims submission including CPT/CDT codes.

· Excellent time management techniques, demonstrating the ability to handle multiple competing priorities.

· Proficient in data entry/translation with proven attention to detail resulting in minimal errors.

· Demonstrated excellent Customer Service skills.

· Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Desirable Qualifications:

· Experience with electronic health record;

· Electronic claims submission, ideally w/AxiUm and/or Epic;

· Experience with confidential information/record keeping; and

· Knowledge of University policies, procedures, and regulations.
