Job Duties:

The Department of English at East Carolina University ( is seeking to fill one fixed-term faculty position with the title of Teaching Assistant Professor specializing in composition to begin in January 2025. This is a full-time non-tenure-track position with an initial appointment up to two and a half years and the possibility of subsequent appointments. The full-time teaching load is typically four courses per semester. Teaching will consist of face-to-face courses, with the possibility that some online courses may be assigned, depending on department and university need. Depending upon a candidate's credentials, as well as the needs in the department, the Chair may assign other courses and/or duties besides composition teaching. Service to the university, community, and profession is expected. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications, and full-time positions include benefits.

Minimum Education/Experience:

A PhD in English or a related field, including but not limited to Rhetoric/Composition, Writing Studies, or Technical Communication, is required. Degrees must be from appropriately accredited institutions. Candidates should demonstrate knowledge of and experience in writing program administration and teaching courses in first-year writing and writing about the disciplines.

The Department of English (english.ecu.edu) is a vibrant and energetic community of teachers, scholars, researchers, and writers. The department also supports general education for all majors across the university through Writing Foundations courses and courses that contribute to writing intensive, domestic and global diversity, humanities, and social science general education requirements.
