Job Description
We are seeking enthusiastic and dedicated individuals to join our team as Teaching Site Coordinators! In this rewarding role, you will have the opportunity to support academically low-performing students in grades Pre-K through 5th across 11 elementary schools in Southern Maine. Our program engages students in hands-on engineering design challenges that incorporate literacy, math, and social-emotional learning, helping them develop essential skills for success, such as academic confidence, initiative, problem-solving, communication, and perseverance.
Eligible students are identified through collaboration among program directors, site coordinators, and school staff. Our program is primarily funded through 21st Century Community Learning Center grants and is offered in partnership with local school districts.
Position Overview:
As the Teaching Site Coordinator, you will coordinate and implement a dynamic program focused on Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) curriculum and enrichment activities, including health and wellness, cultural experiences, and social-emotional learning. You will manage daily communication with families and caregivers, oversee activities and schedules, and supervise a small team of teachers and volunteers. This is a part-time, fixed-term position for the school year, with program days on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.
Key Responsibilities:
Collaborate with program directors and school staff on student enrollment and registration processes.
Deliver in-person STEAM curriculum and enrichment activities with support from site directors.
Maintain clear communication with parents, volunteers, and school staff regarding student enrollment, schedules, behavior, progress, and program visibility.
Create a physically and emotionally safe learning environment for students and staff.
Build positive relationships with students, supporting and inspiring them in making healthy personal, social, and academic choices. Assist with behavior challenges as needed.
Utilize best practices to promote consistent student attendance and meet grant enrollment targets.
Keep accurate records of attendance, meal counts, center activities, student records, team meetings, and other requested documentation.
Collaborate with directors to develop enrichment activities, schedules, and curriculum.
Supervise a team of teachers, teaching assistants, and volunteers.
Lead weekly team meetings to discuss program delivery needs, reflections, and improvement goals.
Be accessible to students, families, and team members via phone and email during program hours, ensuring timely communication.
Assist in scheduling and coordinating family and public events, presentations, partner activities, and special guests.
Conduct yourself professionally at all times, adhering to program expectations, online safety guidelines, and learning standards.
Minimum Qualifications:
State of Maine Teaching Certification
Demonstrated leadership experience in an educational setting
BA or BS degree in Education or a related field
Work Experience and Skills:
At least 3 years of teaching experience with elementary-aged youth
Minimum 1 year of supervisory or leadership experience
Experience working with diverse communities and low-performing populations is preferred; experience with English Language Learners is a plus for certain sites.
Strong communication, interpersonal, organizational, and time management skills
Proficient in using technology, including Microsoft Outlook, Google Drive Suite, Zoom, and other relevant platforms
Flexibility, creativity, and strong problem-solving skills
Growth mindset and a willingness to learn and implement innovative teaching methods
Ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment
