LED Technician - Live Events / Music Industry

Summary:

Gateway Studio and Production Services offers turnkey production service solutions for the live music, touring and event industries. The LED Technician Level 3 plays a vital role in the production process of the video department. The LED Technician 3 is responsible for the preparation of LED instruments necessary for the making of live performance productions. This position reports to the Video Director

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Major Responsibilities:

1. LED Equipment:

  • Prepare in shop the set-up of LED equipment, including hanging LED panels, laying and connecting power cables.
  • Maintain equipment readiness and equipment inventory.
  • Load LED equipment manually into carts or containers.
  • Transfer equipment to its destination point for loading or unloading.

2. Equipment Prep and Testing:

  • Visually inspect products for damage.
  • Repair damaged LED video tiles, test, firmware & software updates & maintenance, and troubleshoot LED video parts and components, including hand soldering pixels on LED tiles
  • Generate reports detailing service work performed and comply with processes to maintain and accurate physical spare parts inventory onsite.
  • Collaborate with other technicians, and manufacturers to resolve problems.
  • Conduct complex repetitive testing and troubleshooting.
  • Manage technical resources including parts and materials necessary for repair, inspection, preparation, and maintenance of equipment.
  • Coordinate with the department head to ensure prompt execution of RMA shipment and returns management.

3. Communication:

  • Communicate with Director of Video and co-workers as needed throughout projects to ensure customer satisfaction.
  • Assist all departments as needed.

4. Safety:

  • Ensure workplace safety and efficiency.
  • Follow proper safety protocol at all times.
  • Wear proper PPE at all times, based on the scope of work.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certificates:

  • High school diploma or GED certificate required.
  • BS degree in related field preferred.

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in electronics troubleshooting, soldering and repair.
  • Experience working in the live events industry preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of video & LED equipment.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving ability and collaboration skills.

Skills/Abilities:

  • Ability to work under a variety of indoor and outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to test and troubleshoot electronic equipment.
  • Ability to work with power cables and electrical power systems.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced environment.
  • Trustworthy - Ability to maintain regular and punctual attendance.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Physical Demands:
  • Ability to work at a consistent pace throughout the shift.
  • Due to the complexity and weight of the equipment, adequate stamina and physical strength is necessary to perform duties of job.
  • Work with power cables and power distribution in common live event environments.
  • Work under any prevailing terrain and weather conditions and be appropriately dressed to do so, regardless of cold, heat, humidity, or wet weather conditions.

Strength:

  • Frequent manual lifting, up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).
  • Frequent pushing and pulling up to 50 lbs., depending on equipment available (50-80% of shift).

Manual Dexterity:

  • Sufficient manual dexterity to perform activities required under essential functions.
  • Frequent light grasping and fine motor tasks (65-85% of shift).

Coordination:

  • Ability to perform gross body coordination and hand-eye coordination tasks without instability.
  • Work on a variety of uneven surfaces installing power cables and lights.

Mobility:

  • Ability to sit, stand, bend, squat, lift, crawl, twist and move frequently during working hours.
  • Frequent standing (65-85%).
  • Occasional stair climbing and descending (30% of shift).

Visual:

  • Must be able to see or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to assure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met.

Hearing:

  • Must be able to hear or use prosthetics that will enable the senses to function adequately to assure that the essential functions of this position can be fully met.

Speech:

  • Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner.
